Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Malaysia have enjoyed active people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. Two countries have signed a number of cooperation agreements in various fields such as culture, tourism, education, science and technology. In recent years, the 2020 China-Malaysia Year of Culture and Tourism was jointly held by two countries, the China Cultural Centre has opened in Kuala Lumpur. Various universities in Malaysia have set up a Confucius Institute, and China’s Xiamen University has set up a standalone campus in Malaysia, which is the first offshore overseas campus set up by a renowned university from China. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, exchanges between the youths and peoples of China and Malaysia are in full swing, which plays an important role in enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries and strengthening people-to-people ties.
