Premier Wen Jiabao Delivers a Speech at Pakistan's Parliament
2010/12/20

On Dec. 19, 2010, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council delivered a speech titled Standing Together through Storm for a Better Future at Pakistan's parliament.

Premier Wen said China-Pakistan friendship is deeply rooted, evergreen and vibrant. China-Pakistan relations are as firm as a rock and have withstood the tests of time. Such strong friendship and relations are attributed to the insightful vision of the leaders of elder generations and the meticulous efforts of the people. China-Pakistan friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and has blended into the blood of the people. It has become a noble and firm conviction and turned into concrete actions.

Wen said Pakistan is a beautiful land rich in natural resources and cultural heritage. A splendid civilization was born on this ancient and magical soil. The Pakistani people are kind, honest, hardworking, courageous, persevering and persistent. Since the founding of Pakistan 60 years ago, the Pakistani government and people have been relying upon themselves to overcome difficulties and have made remarkable achievements on the path of building the country and developing economy. They have won the dignity and achieved development. Pakistan is now at a critical juncture, facing some difficulties and challenges. However, the Pakistani government and people haven’t retreated. The heroic Pakistani people will be able to ride out the storm, embrace hope and achieve new development. The Chinese government and people will firmly stand with the Pakistani government and people through difficulties.

Wen stressed it is the common strategic choice of China and Pakistan to consolidate and develop the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, which conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and the people, and is conducive to promoting regional and global peace, stability and development. China-Pakistan relations will be more solid, more closely-linked and more robust. “We will soon celebrate the 60th anniversary for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Both sides should take this opportunity to carry forward traditional friendship, constantly enrich bilateral strategic cooperative partnership and achieve more fruitful results.”

Wen said China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners and good brothers sharing weal and woe. The two countries have weathered through the difficult and glorious history side by side. “Let us strengthen our confidence, stand together through thick and thin, and jointly create a bright future for China-Pakistan relations.”

More than 600 delegates attended the event, including Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Farooq Naek, Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Fehmida Mirza, all the members of the Senate and the National Assembly, Pakistani senior government officials, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), and Chief of Air Staff (CAS). They welcomed Premier Wen’s speech with over 30 rounds of warm applause.
