China's Central Economic Work Conference from 2005-2009

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China wrapped up an annual economic work conference Sunday, vowing to enhance and improve macro-economic regulation next year to ensure stable and healthy economic development.

The three-day Central Economic Work Conference in Beijing, with the attendance of President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, is one of the most important economic policy-making events in China.

The following is the year, basic tone and major tasks of the central economic work conference held during the previous five years.

The year of 2009

Time: Dec. 5 to 7

Basic tone: promote the transformation of the economic development pattern while maintaining stable and comparatively fast economic growth

Major tasks: China vows to improve macro-regulation in 2010 to ensure stable and relatively fast economic growth to advance economic structure adjustment; lift the quality and efficiency of economic growth; boost rural development momentum; deepen reform and opening up; enhance the momentum and vigor of economic growth; promote a stable increase in exports; improve people's living standards; maintain social stability.

The year of 2008

Time: Dec. 8 to 10

Basic tone: to maintain a stable and relatively fast economic growth

Major tasks: China plans to enhance and improve macro-regulation and implement proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy in 2009. It vows to step up efforts to increase farmers' income and strengthen the developing momentum of agriculture industry and rural economy; speed up the transformation of the economic development pattern and structural adjustment; deepen the reform and opening up; maintain social stability.

The year of 2007

Time: Dec. 3 to 5

Basic tone: to prevent economy overheating and inflation

Major tasks: China pledges to improve macroeconomic policy to maintain the momentum of stable and relatively fast economic growth; enhance the development of agriculture and the rural economy; promote innovation and optimization of the industrial structure; push forward energy-saving and emission cutting; improve people's living standards.

The year of 2006

Time: Dec. 5 to 7

Basic tone: to realize a sound and fast economic growth

Major tasks: China vows to enhance and improve macro-regulation to maintain and boost momentum of economic growth; focus more on boosting rural economy and promoting the construction of a new socialist countryside; push forward the optimization of the economy's industrial structure; promote innovation and urbanization; further enhance social harmony.

The year of 2005

Time: Nov. 29 to Dec. 1

Basic tone: to maintain the continuity and stability of macroeconomic policy, improve the quality and efficiency of economic growth in an effort to realize fast and healthy development

Major tasks: China will step up efforts to maintain the momentum of fast economic growth; promote the development of sectors concerning agriculture, farmers and rural areas; promote innovation and adjustment of the industrial structure to build an energy-efficient and environmental-friendly society; promote the coordinated development of regional economy; open wider to the outside world; solve problems concerning people's rights and interests; promote the building of a harmonious society.
