Ambassador Chai Xi visited the headquarter of the New Straits Times Press

On 23rd May, Ambassador Chai Xi visited the headquarter of the New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad (NSTP). During his visit, Ambassador Chai exchanged views with Mr. Abdul Jalil Hamid, Group Managing Editor, and other senior editors, and visited its editorial area and resource office.

Ambassador Chai briefed the latest development of the China-Malaysia relations. He said that the bilateral relations between the two countries were in its best period in history at present. There have been frequent high-level exchanges and fruitful achievements in cooperation in all fields. In 2011, the bilateral trade volume broke through USD 90 billion, reaching a new historical height. China is the largest trading partner of Malaysia, and Malaysia is the largest trading partner of China among all ASEAN member countries. People-to-people exchanges between the two countries exceeded 2 million every year. He also emphasized that with both sides' joint effort, China-Malaysia strategic cooperative relations would make greater achievements.

Ambassador Chai then introduced China's peaceful development and foreign policies. He also elaborated on China's position on the South China Sea.

Mr. Hu Guangyao, Chief Correspondent of Xinhua News Agency Kuala Lumpur Bureau, and diplomats from the Chinese Embassy attended the above meeting.

NSTP has three newspapers, namely New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro, and is one of the most influential newspaper groups in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
