Ambassadors Bai Tian called on Prime Minister Mahathir
          On May 24th, Ambassador Bai Tian called on Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad at his office in Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya. Ambassador Bai congratulates Prime Minister Mahathir for his assumption of office as Prime Minister for the second time. Ambassador Bai said, you are a well-respected long-term friend of the Chinese people. Your first tenure as the Malaysian Prime Minister covered almost half of the 44 years since China and Malaysia established diplomatic ties. During your last service as Prime Minister, you visited China for seven times. Your important contributions to China-Malaysia relations laid a solid foundation for the comprehensive and profound China-Malaysia friendly and cooperative relations we are enjoying today. You also initiated the China-ASEAN cooperation and "10 plus 3" cooperation and  played a historic role for today's vigorous East Asia cooperation. As a traditional sincere friend and important cooperative partner of Malaysia, China is looking forward to working with the new Malaysian government to advance China-Malaysia pragmatic cooperation in a spirit of equality and mutual trust, and securing mutual benefit and win-win results. I believe that during your new term of office, China-Malaysia relations will scale new heights.

        Ambassador Bai briefly introduces the development of pragmatic cooperation between China and Malaysia, reveals that China has been Malaysia's largest trading partner for nine consecutive years, and the largest investor in Malaysia's manufacturing industry for two consecutive years as well as the largest origin country of foreign tourists to Malaysia for six consecutive years. China and Malaysia are both Asian countries with shared aspiration and destiny. Now Both countries are standing at a historical juncture, blessed with huge potential and bright prospects, both countries shall work together for common development and prosperity. This is also the inherent essence of President Xi Jinping's idea of ​​building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind, which echoes well with the Asian values you have consistently promoted. We appreciate that you openly reiterated your support for the "Belt and Road" initiative and welcomed Chinese investment, shortly after assuming office. China always regards Malaysia as an important cooperation partner for the 21st century maritime silkroad, and is ready to promote the "Belt and Road" initiative together with Malaysia, striving for the common prosperity and development of the two countries and the building of an Asian Community of Common Destiny.

        Prime Minister Mahathir said that China has always been a close friend and important development partner of Malaysia. The new government of Malaysia will further enhance the all-round cooperation with China especially in political, economic and trade fields. In recent years, China has achieved phenomenal success in economic development, infrastructure building including rail systems, technological advancement in areas like agriculture production. Malaysia can learn from China and share the good practices and experiences of economic and technological development. There are many things to do together between the two countries. Malaysia welcomes Chinese investment and expects the further growth of bilateral pragmatic cooperation.

        Ambassador Bai invites Prime Minister Mahathir to visit China. Prime Minister Mahathir said it has been quite a few years since his last trip to China, he is looking forward to visiting China again.
