China and Malaysia Hold First Table Top Exercise

The first joint table top exercise (TTX) between Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), code-named "Peace and Friendship 2014", was held from Dec.22 to 26 in Kuala Lumpur.

The TTX covered subjects such as navy and air force projection, combined joint escort, combined joint search and rescue, combined joint rescue of hijacked vessel and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief ( HADR), etc. The two sides also shared experiences on operations and mechanisms of the respective military involving in HADR. Malaysian Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd. Zin and Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense Major General Hu Changming declared the opening and closing of the TTX respectively. Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia H.E. Huang Huikang attended the closing ceremony.

The TTX is an important move to materialize the consensus reached by the leadership of the two militaries and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, marking an important milestone for the friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between the two sides. It served to promote mutual understanding, friendship and trust. The TTX is believed to be a positive starting point in joint exercises and training between the two sides, laying solid foundation for their further cooperation in HADR. It opens a new chapter for both sides' security cooperation by improving their capacity of jointly handling challenges.

The two sides would like to take this opportunity to further promote their friendly cooperation, maintain close coordination and interaction, push forward bilateral relationship, and enrich the content of the China-Malaysia all-round strategic partnership and enhance regional security and stability.
