A New Journey of Friendship and Partnership
---- Remarks by Amb. Huang Huikang at the Welcoming Dinner by PPMC and CEAM
2014/01/20

Dato Majid Khan,

Acting President Li Zhongpin,

Distinguished Tan Sri and Dato,

Dear Friends,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me begin by expressing our deep gratitude and sincere thanks to Malaysia-China Friendship Association and China Enterprises Association in Malaysia for jointly hosting tonight's welcome dinner.

It is indeed an honor and privilege for me to be appointed as the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, a great nation with natural beauty, abundant resources, diverse culture and harmonious society, as indicated by many posters, a truly Asia, which I like very much.

China-Malaysia are good neighbors, good friends, and good partners. The friendly exchanges between our people date back a few thousand years.

---- about 600 years ago, Zhenghe visited and stayed in Malacca five times during his total seven historical voyages to the Western World, leaving many beautiful legendary stories and legacy.

---- 40 years ago, China and Malaysia established formal diplomatic relations, turning a new page in the history of our bilateral relations. since then, our two countries have enjoyed mutual trust and respect politically, mutually beneficial economic cooperation and mutual learning in the cultural field, bringing real benefits to people of the two countries.

---- 3 months ago, President Xi Jinping paid a very successful visit to Malaysia, and a comprehensive strategic partnership was established, bringing our relations into a new era of all-round development.

---- Today, our relationship is standing at a new starting point and facing important opportunities of further growth in the spirit of ancient ties, current friendship and future partnership. Both sides are ready to work together closely to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our diplomatic ties, deepen practical cooperation and friendly exchanges in various fields and elevate our relationship to a new level. I have some good news to share with you. Last year, our two-way trade volume had reached a new high, exceeding US dollar 100 billion, making Malaysia China's third largest trade partner in Asia, just next to Japan and ROK, and continuous largest trade partner among ASEAN countries for 6 years. In addition, a lovely pair of pandas will arrive at KL soon in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties. I have every confidence that with the joint efforts of the two sides, China-Malaysia relations will embrace a brighter future.

Dear friends,

As a Chinese proverb says, when you drink water, you should not forget those who dug the well for you. While taking the office of the 14th Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to all the people who have made efforts and contributions in building upon an everlasting friendship and sustainable cooperation between our two great nations. In particular, I very much appreciate the important role that PPMC and CEAM have played over many years in promoting friendly exchanges of people to people and strengthening economic ties between China and Malaysia.

As I know that PPMC's main objective is to encourage and strengthen the fraternity, understanding and friendship among the peoples of Malaysia and China. This is similar to my mission in some ways. During my tenure of office, I will exert my efforts to further grow China-Malaysia relations. I firmly believe that in carrying out this important mission, I will receive valuable assistance and support from your organizations.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In conclusion, I would like to make a toast,

May Malaysia enjoy prosperity and its people well-being!

May China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership bear more fruits!

May everyone present here enjoy good health and every success!
