On August 8, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman on the sidelines of the series of Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia. The two sides have held a host of celebrations. China will work together with the Malaysian side and implement in good faith the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, so as to ensure that China-Malaysia relations will continue to set a good example for and play a leading role in China's relations with other ASEAN countries. The two sides should maintain the sound momentum of high-level visits, upgrade economic cooperation and trade, and strengthen exchanges in tourism, education and culture. China will continue its active engagement in the search for the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370 and related investigation. Wang Yi extended once again sympathy to the Malaysian side for the crash of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 17.
Foreign Minister Anifah said that the Malaysian side pays high attention to the consensus reached between Prime Minister Najib Razak and Chinese leaders during his visit to China, stands ready to forge vigorously ahead with the comprehensive strategic partnership with the Chinese side. The Malaysian side pledges to continue with the search for Fight MH 370 and thanks China for its compassion and sympathy on the crash of Flight MH 17. The Malaysian side will always make unremitting efforts for the development of ASEAN-China relations.
