Q: The contact group on the Syrian issue will convene an emergency meeting in Geneva on June 30 to discuss Annan's six-point proposal. Has China been invited to the meeting?

A: China is positive and open to the proposals of hosting an international conference and creating a contact group on the Syrian issue. China is now staying in communication with all parties concerned over the above proposals.

Q: It is reported that US President Barack Obama recently unveiled a new strategy on Africa, laying stress on strengthening US-Africa relations and trade and promoting peace, security, good-governance and democracy in Africa. What is China's comment? How does China see strengthening cooperation with the US in Africa?

A: Peace and stability in Africa bears on prosperity and stability of the world and can't do without international support and assistance. At present, there are both new opportunities and quite a few difficulties and challenges for peace, stability and development of Africa. China calls on developed countries including the US to respect Africa's wishes, heed its voices, take account of its concerns and actively honor their aid commitments to Africa with a view to making positive contribution to peace, stability and development of Africa.

Both China and the US are important cooperation partners of Africa and each has its own features and advantages in cooperation with Africa. China is open to discussing cooperation in Africa with the US side. Relevant cooperation should be steadily carried out on the basis of equality and mutual benefit and in the principle of respecting Africa's wishes and serving Africa's development.

Q: Shenzhou IX spacecraft will be launched soon. Are China's space activities all about advancing science and technology? Are they also about national pride?

A: China's space program is an important component of the efforts to explore and use the outer space peacefully by the mankind. All of China's space activities are for peaceful purposes. China is willing to conduct international cooperation with other countries in space programs including manned space programs on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, so as to push the world space technology to a higher level and make positive contribution to the peaceful use of the outer space for the benefit of human being.

The achievements of China' space program are made possible by the hard work and unremitting efforts of all Chinese people who should take pride in it.

Q: It is reported that the P5+1 countries, the European Union and Iran will hold talks in Moscow on June 18 and 19. Which Chinese official will attend the talks?

A: Assistant Foreign Minister Le Yucheng will lead a delegation to the meeting.

China always believes that dialogue and negotiation is the sole correct and effective way to properly resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. We hope all sides can increase diplomatic efforts, properly handle disputes, push for progress in the Moscow talks, consolidate the positive momentum of dialogue and cooperation so as to seek a comprehensive, long-term and proper resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.

China has long been committed to promoting peace talks and is ready to work with other parties to continue to play a constructive role for the peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic means.

Q: What is the significance of China's sending its first female astronaut into space?

A: Please refer to the competent authorities. We are all looking forward to China's first female astronaut.
